Permaculture

Stonehedge is striving to create an environment to support individuals that want to be the change they would like to see in the world.  In order to create this kind of environment, we incorporate permaculture principles in all that we do as we become a hands-on, experiential learning center.

Permaculture is a system of agricultural and social design principles centered on simulating or directly utilizing the patterns and features observed in natural ecosystems. The term “permaculture” (as a systematic method) was first coined by David Holmgren and Bill Mollison, two Australian academics, in 1978. The word “permaculture” originally referred to "permanent agriculture," but was expanded to stand also for "permanent culture," as it was understood that social aspects are an integral part of a truly sustainable system. Below is a brief video with David Holmgren explaining in his own words what permaculture is.

Stonehedge has hosted permaculture gatherings the past, and will be hosting a 72-hour Permaculture Design Course over 5 consecutive weekends in May-June 2024.
