~Connect with nature & others through imaginative, unstructured play~
Calling all parents of curious children, if you've been looking for opportunities where your child can play, explore and wander in the great outdoors with other children, we welcome you to our Forest Explorer Group.
In these weekly outdoor gatherings, you can expect to meet other families looking for similar experiences. There are no planned activities in this group, this is an opportunity for children to get together and play however their little hearts desire. (and also a wonderful chance for parents to connect as well!)
Our Explorer will try to meet rain or shine to fully experience the outdoors, but we will cancel when weather is severe. On chilly, wet, or windy days we may be able to warm up in the summer house building as long as there are no events at that time. Please check with host before entering the summerhouse.
The grounds tend to stay soggier in areas due to the series of ponds and streams that winds throughout the property. We recommend waterproof shoes and a spare change of clothes to have on hand!
~there's no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable attire~
Meet by the gift shop for introductions and orientation; Sundays at 2:00. We'll meet underneath the awning by the second door to the gift shop, or nearby the stone sphere.
While enjoying the Gardens, we wish for you to keep two things in mind; to be kind to the gardens, wildlife, each other and to stay safe.
To stay safe we need to be aware of our surroundings at all times — a wonderful opportunity to utilize our senses to foster awareness. Let's be aware of the ponds and streams, potentially slippery rocks, uneven walkways, look out for posion ivy and check afterwards for the chance of ticks. Let's also enjoy the gardens together, and keep children with a parent or guardian.
~Sensory, process-based creative projects & Classes coming soon~
Do you wonder how nature can inspire your children — to see how they use the great outdoors as a special world in which they explore, get imaginative, express themselves and tap into their creativity?
Forest Creator classes will feature open-ended activities using natural materials for children to explore their creativity with each season. We'll provide a creative prompt for the week - i.e mud painting - along with any supplies needed. Your child then takes the project in any direction he or she desires. This is a chance for children to express themselves in a place where muddy messes are welcome.
~Engaging STEAM inspired activities & classes coming soon~
Let's dive in deeper to discover the outdoors!
We're excited to present this engaging curriculum developed by educator and founder of Your Natural Learner, Leah McDermott. Each week focuses on a different theme - i.e. sun, bugs, patterns, trees, etc. - with three activities to bring the theme to life. We'll provide all the supplies needed, as well as ways to continue the discovery process at home!
